Ideas for holidays, weekends and trips in Salon-de-Provence and its surroundings
If you are visiting the Campanile Salon de Provence hotel in the winter months you may be lucky enough to visit the Christmas Crib & Figurine Fair, in Aix-en-Provence. Typically festive, this runs in tandem with the Christmas Market and, as the event's name suggests, focuses on the famous ‘santons' – translated as nativity scene figurines. This is an annual event and runs from late November through December. Running in mid-November, the annual Image de Ville festival is an architecture and urban space film festival. This is a unique event that both celebrates and hones in on films based on the very notion of architecture and urban space. A new theme is adhered to every year and this in turns helps the festival continually evolve. To take in some architecture and sites head to Nostradamus' House, Porte Bourg Neuf and the beautiful Église St Michel, which is located in the centre of town. For those not afraid of heights then visiting the highest point in the Luberon Mountains, the Mourre Nègre Summit, offers stunning panoramic views. The Arles Great Provençal Market is a wonderful place to absorb some of the flavours of the local area and with a diversity of produce on offer dependent upon the season, this is the perfect chance to take in local traditions.
