The Lyric Art Festival in Aix-en-Provence, first held in July 1948, has become one of the greatest festivals of its kind in all of Europe. This event welcomes top singers and musicians for three weeks of opera and classical music concerts (with a strong preference for Mozart). The first edition of the Lyric Art Festival took place in the Archbishop's courtyard and in the Saint-Sauveur cathedral, in the beautiful town of Aix-en-Provence, with its fifty or so fountains, some of which date back to the 15th century. The European Academy of Music trains the musicians who will take part in the festival, producing the festival's performances, and preparing following year's program. The Academy is thus the heart and soul of this exceptional festival.In 2007, Bernard Fouccroulle took over as director of the Festival of Aix-en-Provence. An organist and composer, he is naturally attached to the Baroque repertoire, as well as contemporary art, and is especially committed to continuing the process of transforming opera into a crossroads of encounter and of life.The Festival of Aix-en-Provence is thus entering a new period in its history, and in 2013 it will celebrate its 65th edition.
